July #jammed: Grace serves.
Day 206: Resilient shoes.
“My heart rejoices in the Lord;
in the Lord my horn is lifted high.
My mouth boasts over my enemies,
for I delight in your deliverance.” 1 Samuel 2:1 (NIV)
Chucks have become the shoe of choice in our house. It started with Papa (my dad) and continued on with my siblings and I …and now my two daughters. They’ve been sporting a pair of chucks since they were too young to wear the tread down. An old beat up pair is retired every few months. Shoes get bigger as feet grow fast, but no matter what color they are or season it is … pair after pair walk in and out of the house every day.
Today’s verse tells of Hannah’s well worn path of prayer. And though her sandals didn’t have rubber protected toes or flashy colors, she wore them with everything …those prayers to God. For a son. For Samuel. I wonder how many soles were worn down trecking to the temple and pacing in prayer. Were their pairs to account for the steps of her prayers?
” I celebrate how You have saved me!’ 1 Samuel 2:1 (VOICE)
And what of the celebration of peace that she felt before God even answered her prayer with a son? A prayerful soul has the endurance to hold up the weight of hope deferred. Those are some shoes that go with everything. Prayer goes with everything.
Father, Praise You for prayer. Thank You that Jesus granted us the grace to come to You with everything through prayer and petition. We confess our sins and pray for Your forgiveness. The forgiveness that Jesus died to grant us. Bless us to strengthen our resolve to pray, everyday. In Jesus’ Name, Amen.
