August #jammed: Reflecting on Grace.
Day 236: Universal fit.
We live in an age where we can find just about anything we can imagine on a pair of leggings. It’s like the 80’s met the 90’s and demanded a team effort come back. We’ll always be itching for the next trend, and constantly reinventing or slightly changing the wheel.
Hebrews 11 is a hall of fame of Biblical heroes and greats of the faith. But I absolutely love that it would take too long to tell all of the stories. The Bible is already a pretty big book, but so much more happened that isn’t written down in those pages. And not just in the Old Testament, but the New! There are stories of Jesus that are not recounted in those pages. Things I love to wonder about …
As sure as the trends keep passing, these same stories that we DO get to read about will unveil themselves in new and slightly different ways. The Living Word has a way of applying familiar verses to new life territories. It weaves in an out of our lives like an old jean jacket, paired differently each decade. Much more than a trendy article of clothing, the Bible is our lifeline to God.
God communicates to us through His Word. He directs us, helps us, encourages us …and loves us through those pages. Even the hard to read ones of the Old Testament and Revelation, hold important and loving lessons for our hearts to behold. There’s a reason for a hall of greats …even in the Bible. We aspire to be them, remember their stories with endearing pause, and revel in what it must have been like to be chosen by God for such amazing purposes.
They are only a representation of the rest of them …the rest of us …chosen and chasing after Christ. Even if the hall of fame fills up, our specific …God-given purpose …is no less significant to God.
Father, Praise You for Your Word. Thank You for clearly defining Truth in this world, and forgive us for entertaining anything but! Bless us, Lord Jesus, to follow You all of our days, rediscovering Your stories and letting our hearts be molded by the Truth. In Jesus’ Name, Amen.

There were many more heroes of faith before the coming of Christ, and much more could be written about them. Only a small sampling is given, representing all types of men and women of faith. The great quality they had in common was that of overcoming “through faith” NIV Study Bible Notes
