March #jammed: Grace Revealed.
Day 63: It’s cool to be light.
“MOM! MOM! MOM!” my eighty year old shrieked as she flew through the door from dance.
“YOU’LL NEVER GUESS WHO I GET TO BE!!!” and she proceeded to tell me, in very high pitched tones, that she get’s to be her favorite droid for the recital this year.
“I just knew she wouldn’t ask me to be on the dark side, Mommy …she knows I don’t like the dark side!” she continued on rapidly until she drifted off to sleep.
Today’s verse addresses conformity.
Conform- 1. If you conform, you behave in the same way as everyone else or in a way that is expected of you. 2. If something conforms to a rule or law, it does what the rule or law requires. -Kara Durbin, Parenting with Scripture.
It’s super fun when our kids adopt our passions as theirs. And sweeter still, when they take stock in our opinions over their peers. We have such precious little of those moments left in my house before we enter the scene of junior high …where I hear the dark side is prevalent. Good thing the force is strong with this one.
“Peer pressure is the main way children are tempted to conform to the world. Discuss peer pressure with your child and try to discern which areas might be a struggle for him. Encourage your child to be proud of his individuality and high moral standards. Help him understand that God will give him the strength to stand firm and reward his determination.” Kara Durbin, Parenting with Scripture
There will be a time when my daughter will drift off to sleep talking to her besties instead of me. In every fleeting moment, it is so important to pass on what we know about God. Teach them how to turn the Light when surrounded by dark.
Father, Praise You for allowing us to parent our children to Your feet. Thank You for encouraging us through Your Word, and teaching us through their sweet little lives. We confess that we do not always equip them with the power of Your Word, and pray that You chip off the stubborn parts of our hearts to fully embrace Your truth. In Jesus Name, Amen.
