September #jammed: Free Grace.
Day 273: It’s permanent.
“Take it off….” I instructed and pointed a finger back up the stairs from which she came. My little girl loves make up. Loves to play with it, and can apply lipstick better than her older sister, I, and most other grown people. It’s a precious little quirk about her that I really love. But it’s not appropriate for her to wear outside the house less the dance competition stage.
Her favorite trick to play is the lip stain. It’s impossible to wipe all the way off, and she ‘s well aware of it. She wants to wipe it off “the best she can” and then swipe some gloss over it to let a little bit of her color shine through. It’s precious.
Today’s verse addresses our color and shine. What has been entrusted to our care? The gospel. It’s the lip stain that we can’t ever wipe all the way off, once it’s color has seeped into the very part of who we are. There’s no going back, and it’s best to just swipe some shiny gloss over it everyday and let the Color shine through for all to see.
We’re also reminded that it’s not by our own ability the color of the gospel resides in our hearts and shines through the exudent steps our of our walk with Christ.
The original Greek word in context of this verse is enoikeo- to dwell in one and influence him (for good) -Strongs The Spirit doesn’t just dwell in us, He stirs us. Influencing our choices to run in line with God’s love for His people and compassionately stirs the power of the gospel in our souls …our lives …and our conversations.
The Holy Spirit takes up residence in our hearts the first moment we believe. He translates, interprets, and communicates our prayers to God when we have no words to break through the agony or the triumph. He helps us do what we are incapable of doing on our own, but purposed to do in this life …spread the love of the gospel. Love on people for Christ. It’s all about love.
Father, Praise You for the Spirit! Thank You for the indwelling presence of good and love in our lives. Forgive us for taking His presence for granted, and help us to tune into the stirring of our souls at His whisk. In Jesus’ Name, Amen.
