November #jammed: Gracious.
Day 309: Thankful for wisdom …
Leaned over the bathroom sink and as close the mirror as I could get, I yanked out a few silvery strands. Age is something that creeps up and into our hair color before we’re ready. I’m probably causing more gray hairs to grow for every one I pull out, but my denial trumps my clarity.
Wisdom, however, is the part of aging that I welcome. Looking down at my war-torn Bible, passages highlighted over in several different colors, I see those gray hairs trying to come in …in a new whole new light.
The woman Jesus spoke to in today’s verse would say the same. Not of gray hair, although maybe she had those to, but of the different drink of water she took that day and how it changed the way she saw life as she knew it.
Jesus sat by the well, after traveling through an area that was not highly trafficked, accept for by trouble. And he watched this woman as she walked up to the well. He asked her for a drink.
Jesus: Would you draw water, and give Me a drink?
Woman: I cannot believe that You, a Jew, would associate with me, a Samaritan woman; much less ask me to give You a drink. John 4: 8-9
The transformation in her, once wise to Who He was, is remarkaable.
Jesus: The Anointed is speaking to you. I am the One you have been looking for
…The woman went back to the town, leaving her water pot behind. She stopped men and women on the streets and told them about what had happened. John 2:26,28
We think we need to pull the gray hairs out, but all we really need is to realize who He is. Never thirsty again, He told the woman …and she left her water jug behind. Beyond the physical needs of our bodies is the One who quenches the thirst of our souls. Once we know how to put the desire to make our lives meaningful into His hands, we are freed of the burden, and embrace the wisdom that comes with the passing of time …with Him. The transformation in us, once wise to Who He is, is remarkable.
Father, Praise You for the Living Water, Jesus Christ. Our King and Savior, He came to save us from ourselves …forgive us for explaining Him away. Help us to embrace His truth and live our lives in His steps. Never thirsty gain. In Jesus’ Name, Amen.
