Meet Meg

January #jammed : Grace in Life’s Face

Day 22: Grace Goes on Everything.

“It was because of Your great mercy that they were not completely annihilated or forsaken. You are a grace-filled and mercy-laden God.” Nehemiah 9:31 (VOICE)jammed-22

Nutella and Jelly. Peanut butter and Nutella. My daughter’s refuse to fall in line with
normalcy and eat Peanut butter and Jelly sandwiches… or pizza …or mac ‘n’ cheese. Recently, my oldest daughter informed me that meatballs are off the table, and her little sister sad she no longer cares for the dinosaur-shaped chicken nuggets.

Mercy. I’ve tried every imaginable and embarrassing tactic to make dinner time …dinner time. To. No. Avail.

Do you want to know what they do like? Vietnamese Food. What …on …earth?

It’s  human nature to rub against the grain, but we don’t frustrate our Father. God’s compassion and mercy for us cause Him to hold back the fury that could wipe us from existence in one foul swoop on account of our sin. That compassion is the cross. His mercy is Jesus, who died so that we can receive grace.

Today’s verse is part of a prayer and a plea for an entire nation that had refused to “eat their dinner.” It’s an apology, a prayer for God’s grace, and a reading of the law. (NIV notes)

“But in your great mercy, you did not destroy them completely or abandon them forever. What a gracious and merciful God you are!” Nehemiah 9:31 (NLT)

Break out the Nutella and dip your apples in it. Serve dinner with a side of ketchup. Grace goes with anything.

jammed-tweet-blueFather, You are powerful to destroy, but overriden by your compassion for us. Thank You for forgiving us of our sins, and restoring us to grace through Jesus’ sacrifice. Forgive us for repeating mistakes, and help us find the strength to taste new life. In Jesus’ Name, Amen.
