August #jammed: Reflecting on Grace.

Day 214: Super Clean.

I don’t understand why you spend your money for things that don’t nourishAugust 2
 or work so hard for what leaves you empty.
 Attend to Me and eat what is good;
enjoy the richest, most delectable of things.” Isaiah 55:2 (VOICE)

“What are you doing?” I asked my daughter, after she had trailed out of her room once again.

“I just tucked you in, what could you possible need now?” I asked.

“Forgot to clean my ears,” she answered matter of factly, pace not slowing one bit as she made her way to my bathroom, “I need a q-tip.”

For. The. Love.

“What happened to all of the q-tips I put in your bathroom?”

She shrugged her shoulders, but I could recount each one I’d picked up after it had served it’s time for things other than cleaning ears.

Today’s Scripture asks us what we are doing with the resources God has blessed us with. The passage talks specifically about money, but I think it reaches far beyond what we can measure. Time, talents, and opportunities are also spent in haste.

“…or work so hard for what leaves you empty.”

When is the last time we ended up with a cart full of great deals that consumed our monthly tithe? How often to we continue to carve time out for the ones who never show up when we could be sharing a laugh with a hurting soul? Or, let our lack of confidence in what God can do through us keep us from experiencing something beyond what we could ever ask or image?

Living in the New Testament era allows us the privilege to walk alongside Someone who can help us manage our time, resources, and talents within God’s will for our lives.

Jesus.

He came to earth to guide us, and died on the cross to save us. He’s invested in us because He loves us.

“Attend to Me and eat what is good.”

The more we experience Christ, the easier it is to follow His steps …no matter how hard or seemingly impossible it may seem.
