August #jammed: Reflecting on Grace.

Day 215: Push the right button.

Of all the wild creatures the Eternal God had created, the serpent was the craftiest.

Serpent (to the woman): Is it true that God has forbidden you to eat fruits from the trees of the garden?” Genesis 3:1 (VOICE)

August 3

He’s been spinning this tune since the beginning of time.

“Did God really say?”

And even though we know he has already lost, the havoc he can still wreak on our lives is still a very real. There are a few points of hope that we can take away from today’s verse.

  1. God created him.

“Of all the wild creatures the Eternal God had created…”

God created the serpent. Everything God created lies within His omnipotent control. Satan may be devious, but he can’t ultimately trump God. Remember, we can’t blame him for every bad thing that we do or experience. Our sinful nature carries consequence with it. The little devil can bend our ears, but he can’t move our limbs.

2. He’s crafty, not right.

crafty-skillful in underhand or evil schemes; cunning; deceitful; sly. dictionary.com

Satan may be really good at scheming, and have all the pomp and circumstance of a justifiable good idea, but there will always be holes in his plan. When we walk with Christ, we have a way to unravel his trickery. The devil will plant seeds of doubt and pose questions, but there is no wonder in the Truth of God’s Word …or Who He is. “I Am.” now, then and forever. God and His Word remain the same.

We should always double check the voices we hear with the Truth of God’s Word. That’s how Jesus thwart his attempts to tempt Him in the dessert, and that’s how we will be able to bust him in is tracks. God knows what he’s up to, and that’s why Jesus left the throne for earth …died on a cross …and rose again. There is no-one greater, more powerful, more just and more loving than our God.
