Hi! I'm Meg! It's great to meet you! Let's unlock the joy to found in everyday life, together!

Meet Meg

March #jammed: Grace Revealed.

Day 73: Grace is louder.

Then the Lord spoke to you out of the fire. You heard the sound of words but saw no form; there was only a voice.” Deuteronomy 4:12post-image-73

Walking alongside a river as it thaws isn’t the most serene scene. There are debris flows that expose the lack of environmental care, but also the natural current of trees. Fallen into the water from gales, winds, and erosion of land, whole trees can be seen floating down the river as the ice melts.

One specific January day, hundreds of fishermen rushed out of the mouth to take advantage of the unseasonable warmth. Clipping along in the race to cast out, I wondered if what I saw up-close would make a blip on their radar. Some twigs are attached to whole trees! Large logs reveal wide stumps that go deep into the water. My voice was too quiet and distant to alert anyone.

When we block-out God’s voice, we risk running into a tree. To visualize the depth of obstacles in our daily path our roots in Christ must be watered.

“Discovering who you are in Christ is not a one-time event. It is an ongoing, life-giving, often paradoxical, and sometimes brain-bending experience.” -Steven Furtick, Crash the Chatterbox.

Today’s verse is part of a speech that Moses gave to the generation of Israelites that would move in to the land God promised. After 40 years wandering in the desert, most of the people that began the journey had died. Moses recounts the evidence of God’s faithfulness and provision. His voice in the burning bush, and His voice in the clouds. God wanted them to listen to and worship His voice rather than look or bow down to a physical form.

In an evidential society, there are many voices that take form in front of us. Jesus died on the cross to open our eyes, and He sent the Spirit to help us see. Chart a course to hear His voice through the study of the Word, and begin to see what’s on the radar.

jammed-tweet-blueFather, Praise You for the many encounters  we read about in Your Word, and experience in our lives. Thank You for providing a loud enough voice to cut through the noise, and forgive us when we choose not to tune into it. Bless us to hear Your voice above all others, always. In Jesus’ Name, Amen.

  1. I’m reading in Deuteronomy right now with my husband, and we’re just loving Moses’ words, remembering the faithfulness of God. Eugene Peterson says that Deut. is the longest sermon in the Bible and, perhaps, the longest sermon in history. Your words, Meg, are preaching to me, today!

    • Megs says:

Wonderful! It’s so fun to see how God works through our humble spaces here on the web! Yay! I have just fallen in love with the Old Testament stories this past year, and the way Jesus can be seen throughout! Happy Tuesday, Michele!

  2. Sarah says:

This is a fantastic post. Thank you for sharing x

  3. We evolve every day- so of course, we aren’t going to discover ourselves just once… You could rediscover yourself pretty much every single day!

  4. themomgene says:

“When we block-out God’s voice, we risk running into a tree.” Yes. This analogy is SO good. I love the story of Moses…so much patience there that I am reminded to practice. I’d love it if you’d be willing to share this post on my Sunday Thoughts Link up. I do them every Sunday but it’s up all week and I think Michele’s going to join up too : ) I’ll share the link if you’re curious! http://mom-gene.com/2017/03/12/the-jolts-sunday-thoughts-13/

    • Megs says:

Yes, floating trees can be dangerous. If only we would always hear God’s voice above ours …we’d run into the a lot less. I normally don’t work or link up on Sunday, but will most definitely join you since you were so kind to ask. Thank you much, and I’ll see you there! Happy Tuesday!!

  5. “When we block-out God’s voice, we risk running into a tree. To visualize the depth of obstacles in our daily path our roots in Christ must be watered.” You’re right; it is so crucial to tune out distractions and stay focused on God’s voice. Thanks for sharing this, Megs!

    • Megs says:

You’re welcome, Lisa! Each day is filled with distractions, problems, and frustrations that attempt to steal our attention from God. Even positive things can distract our focus! Thank goodness for Grace! Happy Tuesday!

  6. this is such a good post, thank you for sharing this with us all! #twinklytuesday

  7. Abby says:

Such a great reminder, Meg. There are so many voices that beg to distract me from what’s truly important. Love that quote from Steven Furtick. I went through the YouVersion devo on that book and it was fantastic. It’s on my list to read!

    • Megs says:

Abby, it’s an amazing book. Pastor Steven really has a gift. He motivates me to stay in God’s Word and listen for His Voice. Happy Wednesday!
