Day 211: Listen and live.

“Fill your minds with beauty and truth. Meditate on whatever is honorable, whatever is right, July 30whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is good, whatever is virtuous and praiseworthy.” Philippians 4:8

When learning how to play a musical instrument, especially in a band or ensemble, students are required to keep a listening log. Specific types of music that a teacher will assign so that the students can hear what they are trying to learn. After hours of listening to the assigned genre of music, it’s easier for the young musician to play their instrument in that style. Listening bridges the gap of trying to describe music in plain text.

Today’s verse tells us how to train our minds to seek Christ. Much like a listening log, time spent in God’s Word bridges the gap of trying to understand how we are supposed to live in plain text.

“Fill your minds with beauty and truth.”

“Meditatie on whatever is honorable …”

“whatever is pure…”

“Whatever is lovely…

“Whatever is good …”

“Whatever is virtuous and praiseworthy..”

Think about Jesus.

When the text is hard to read, think of His story. Look for Jesus, from Genesis to Revelation. Truth can be hard to digest sometimes, and the Bible is no different. But when we live with Jesus as our Savior, something happens. The Holy Spirit resides in us. And He translates, helps us remember, communicates our prayers to God and inspires our understanding of God’s Word as He reveals it to us.

Whatever is Jesus ….

Like listening logs, the more we listen, the more we get to know Jesus. The more we spend time in God’s Word, the easier it is to bridge the gap in understanding how wonderfully unbelievable His love is for us.

Father, Praise You for Jesus. Thank You for sending Your one and only Son to earth so that we can better understand You and Your Word. We confess, sometimes the Truth of Scripture is hard to understand and we give up. Help us, in those moments, through the Holy Spirit, to see what You are revealing to us. In Jesus’ Name, Amen.
