February #jammed: Dunked in Grace

Day 32:  Immersed in the Smell of it.

“And Jesus Christ was revealed as God’s Son by his baptism in water and by shedding his blood on the cross—not by water only, but by water and blood. And the Spirit, who is truth, confirms it with his testimony.” 1John5:6

The rolling of eyes and the gagging of little children wafted from my kitchen table at image32dinnertime. The more preparation I put into the meal, the more they loathe it’s presence on their plates.

“That smells like a fart, mom,” my oldest daughter squawked.

“BBBBBLLLLLLUUUUUURRRRRRPPPPP,” her sister belched, loudly.

Makes me want to FLIP OUT. All I’m after is the assurance that I’ve fed them every nutrient they need to grow beyond what they can blame me for when they’re older. Which is the problem. We cannot accomplish more than what the meal is capable of delivering.

Today’s verse reminds us that we are immersed in the love of Christ whether we cook dinner from scratch or we order take out. Whether we are health nuts or junk food junkies …like to run for miles or loathe walking the dog daily. No matter who we are, He is here.

Refusing nutrition our bodies need starves us from growing properly. The Spirit that sustains us must be consumed to grow our souls…whether the truth smells like a fart or not.

In a last ditch effort to encourage my family to eat healthy, I gave them the power. “After every meal we try, we’ll rate it and discuss if we’ll have it again.”

jammed-tweet-blueSo far, every meal has been a “hit.”  Sometimes, the power to choose our stance broadens our horizons. God, in His brilliance, wired us with choice … Whether we choose Him or not, He is there. We are immersed in His love everyday, whether we choose to starve ourselves of nutrition or not.

In time, my daughter’s tastes have changed. Now, they crave the healthy stuff. Isn’t that just human nature? I want to crave the satisfying sweetness of my Jesus all my life.

Father, Praise You for Jesus! Thank you for His baptism and His blood shed for us. We confess that we do not always consume the spiritual food that satisfies. Forgive us, Lord, and bless our lives with Your presence, Your Spirit, and You Son. In Jesus Name, Amen.

  1. Ah. There’s nothing better than living in grace 24/7. Thanks for sharing. Abundant blessings to you and yours! Bask in God’s love and revel in God’s grace!

  2. Smiling and remembering all those veggies I didn’t eat as a kid but love now . . .

You make me laugh! I love coming here. 🙂 my youngest is so picky I don’t even want to cook. The look she gives any vegetable makes me angry. I’m not making her try anything crazy! Ha!

Oh, I’m so glad to hear you’re laughing along with me on this one. You know, I heard a wise pre-school teacher once tell her class that it takes 20 bites to like something, sometimes. Should we keep a vegetable tally? lol. Happy Wednesday, friend!!!

  4. Sounds like something my kids would’ve said–especially when I was making one of my childhood favorites, “sauerkraut.” I think it’s great, Meg, how you wove this into a metaphor for our taste for, devouring of and growth from God’s word. It’s so true and, like the metaphor of humor you served up for us today, so very delicious and nutritious!

Thank you so much! It’s so funny that you mention sauerkraut! I had it as a kid, too, and loved it! Even my husband joins in when I make that! Too funny. Happy Wednesday!!!!
